A certain looseness of being

“A good watercolour takes a lifetime – plus half an hour…”

Toni Onley

Like many, I sometimes like to try an online painting tutorial. I am a sucker for abstract watercolour seascapes, something I would like to make my signature. This is one (Watercoloraffair.com) that deals with seascapes, teaching techniques in water control and glazing. Looking at the results, I can see that I struggle with looseness and hard edge control. I really tried to be loose and carefree. Perhaps my day job makes me wary of abandoning control and precision, producing a more concrete and predictable outcome. I am uncomfortable with error and risk. Good for patients, less so for loose watercolours. That said I am happy with the colours, tones, composition and my sky is more interesting. #allpartofthefun #lestsmakelmonade
