“A good restaurant is like a vacation…”
Philip Rosenthal
My most viewed blog post is from May 2020. It deals with my memory of a special pasta meal and my frustration at not remembering the venue. People reached out with suggestions and ideas but the matter was never resolved. Recently, after a family birthday dinner at the ever popular Ambrosini’s on Magill Road, Paul the manager/owner hinted at the long and colourful culinary history of the restaurant. Me being me, I felt a blog post coming on and so did a little research. This 181 Sturt Street, Adelaide. It dates from 1965. It has a long history of owners. Grocers, Police officers, chemists, Afghan herbalists and even restaurateurs. In 1972 it was purchased by the Italian restaurateur, Asio Tognetti. In 1983 he closed his own restaurant and leased the site to the Remo Ambrosini, a new player in the hospitality game. I now realise that I ate my dish of spaghetti carbonara at Asio’s in Sturt Street. #nevergoogleasio #letsmakelemonade
