Ellsworth Kelly
It is very exciting to find a new artist. It is extraordinarily exciting to find a new abstract artist. Ellsworth Kelly was born in New York, and worked during the same period as the Post War New York Abstract Expressionists. His work has a different feel and vibrancy, perhaps because he produced nearly all his pieces from a studio in France. To summarise his style in a single word, it would be colour. Bright colour to be exact. His most iconic work is the Spectrum series, which spans several decades. Kelly describes his influences as the legendary bird painting of John James Audubon and the Munsell colour chart. The Munsell chart has ten basic colours (as opposed to ROY G BIV), with an emphasis on defining precisely the hue, value and chroma of each. #morecoloursthantherainbow #letsmakelemonade
