Papering over history

“When I see a white piece of paper, I feel I have to draw…’

Ellsworth Kelly

The village of Arches is in France, just south of Epinal. The Moulins d’ Arches began high quality paper production in 1492 . The mill provided the paper for many of the incunables (read the blog post). Notable first editions printed on Arches paper include the works of Dürer, Napoleon, Voltaire and Joyce. By the end of the 19th century Arches began to specialise, specifically paper for banknotes, watercolour and art books. This 300g cold pressed paper was the favourite of artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. This paper is history in your hand. I am terrified to use it. #hopemelissadoesntseetheprice #letsmakelemonade
