Behold the beauty of the silver apricot

“After the Hiroshima bomb, the ginkgo was the first tree to appear…”

Keji Nakanishi

The Ginkgo tree has a long botanical history. It is the last surviving species of the order Ginkgoales, which appeared in the Jurassic period some 220 million years ago. The tree is considered native to China, where it is known as the Maidenhair tree. It is found in many Asian countries. In Japan it was given the name Ginkgo, meaning silver apricot. It also entered the Western botanical literature early, being described in Carl Linnaeus’s book Mantessa plantarum II as Ginkgo biloba. Many herbal, medicinal and even culinary properties have been associated with the plants leaves. Do your research and it becomes clear that there no scientific evidence for this. Even eating it is not recommended as it is an anticoagulant and carcinogen. The leaves are pretty though. #dinosaurplant #letsmakelemonade
