Setting the tone

Problems with tone often seem to engulf and at times complicate my life. Part of the issue is that tone can be a remarkably imprecise and variable concept. For instance, a musical or vocal sound with reference to pitch, quality or strength. A modulation of the voice expressing a particular feeling or mood. A musical note or sound used on a telephone or answering machine. The general character or attitude of a place, situation or artist work. A basic interval in classical Western music. The particular quality of brightness, deepness or hue of a specific shade of a colour. The normal level of firmness or slight contraction in a resting muscle. I struggle with many of these. #OED #letsmaklemonade
