“I paint flowers so they will not die…”
Frida Kahlo
I love an art exhibition. The AGSA is currently presenting a significant offering in the form of Frida and Diego: Love and Revolution. The art of Frida Kahlo is widely known, but not particularly my cup of tea. To be honest this exhibition surprised me. I was taken by the post revolutionary Mexican abstract art, with its echoes of NY abstract expressionism. I also encountered this work. At age 18, Frida Kahlo was attending the renown National Preparatory School with the intention of going on to study medicine. So keen was she, that she have begun to attend anatomical demonstrations and prepare illustrations for her future studies. That same year she was critically injured in a bus crash that changed the course of her life. Pain, depression and reduced mobility plagued her through the rest of her days. She sought a way forward through art. #suckerforanatomyandabstraction #letsmakelemonade
