“There is no better surgeon than one with many scars…”
Spanish Proverb
Melissa and I have recently moved. On a recent walk we came across a little park, just a few streets from home. It contains a tree that is quite special to me. It too has been relocated. This oak was planted on the 18th of March 1954, at the Walkerville home of Sir Henry Simpson Newland. The occasion was his 80th birthday. In 1970, his residence was on the market. His widow approached the local council regarding moving the tree to a public site, that would celebrate the life of her late husband. Sir Henry was a notable SA Surgeon. He was a founder of the RACS, becoming it’s first president. His RACS academic gown forms part of the SA RACS office historical collection. Several decades ago I was given the honour of wearing it during my own convocation in Melbourne. #smallworld #letsmakelemonade
