The vocabulary around art varies from defined and technical to vague and whimsical. Classical teaching describes elements and principles, but even that can get weird. The elements are line, form, shape, value, colour and texture. The principles are rhythm, balance, graduation, contrast, variety and movement. Some approaches are more romantic, using four completely ethereal qualities. A feeling of ease, a feeling of form, a feeling of beauty, and a feeling of the whole.
