Should you play favourites with green?

“ Green is the purist colour in the world…”

Graydon Carter

I have blogged before about my struggles with the colour green. I have many favourite blues, but greens are just harder for me to get behind. In Urban Sketching there is actually a lot of greens in the bushes, shrubs and trees around our buildings and streets. Purists would tell me to mix my own greens, but who has time for that? I actively dislike Viridian green, Sap green is too obvious, Hookers green worries me, and Teal green offends me. Recently, I was recently shown Perylene green and it might just what I have been seeking. Technically perylene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon. This turns out to be important as it means it is carcinogenic. Nonetheless, it does give rise to moody dark green that gives a really useful shade tone for botanical painting. #dontlickthebrush #letsmakelemonade
