How do modellers select their next project? What inspires the passion to paint and detail a model just so? A lot relates to the box art. Airfix realised early that dramatic imagery would magnify enthusiasm for their plastic creations. Roy Cross is the Van Gogh of Airfix art. A journalist turned self taught aviation and marine artist, his images are insanely detailed and full of drama and action. His art animates the grey plastic sprues contained in each box. Since the early 1960s Cross’s style has become synonymous with scale model packaging, being adopted by nearly all other artists and brands within this genre. #mosquitoattack #letsmakelemonade
