“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year…”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
So Melissa and I were fortunate enough to spend NYE in San Sebastián. This Catalan town is famous for its food, and we had a fabulous meal in a cosy restaurant not far from our hotel. During dinner our waiter asked if we were staying to do our uvas. Initially uncertain as to the correct response, we Googled quickly. Uvas are grapes. In Spain it is traditional to eat a dozen as the clock chimes 12 on NYE. Completing the task will bring good luck for the year., The chimes of the Madrid Post Office clock are now broadcast across Spain, much as in Australia we watch the countdown to the fireworks on Sydney Harbour. This practice began in 1909, when the Alicanese grape growers had a glut of produce, 45 million Spaniards multiplied by 12, means around 576 million grapes are sold every 31st of December. #happy2024toall #letsmakelemonade
