I have so many questions

“Nork hazi dabilen dideak harrapatu ohi du…The path you follow is bound to catch up with you…”

Basque proverb

There is only one topic or person that I have blogged about three times. Frankly, this guy seems to stalk me. On New Years Day I was taking a much needed gentle and restorative walk along the San Sebastian beachfront. This abstract, post modern statue caught my eye, as it was not in keeping with the vibe of the city. It was unmarked, but a little googling revealed that it was a 1955 monument dedicated to Sir Alexander Fleming, by Basque artist Eduardo Chillida Juantego. This is not the original location of the piece. Firstly, it was located in the gardens of Ategorrieta, then moved to behind the Jai Alai petrol station. Later, it was taken to Mount Urgull and the Thorax Hospital gardens. On 25 July 1991 it was placed in its current location on Paseo de Miraconcha. Why the British researcher Fleming in the middle of the Basque Country? Why San Sebastián? Why penicillin? Why such an abstract piece? Why unmarked? Why relocate it? Why put it behind a petrol station? #seriouslywhy? #letsmakelemonade
