“Don’t think it, ink it…”
Mark Victor Hansen
Recently I have become interested with rapid ink sketching. Using a fountain pen of course. For me as an artist of emerging abilities, there several advantages. In particular, drawing with ink gives me freedom. Freedom from the pressure of performance or perfection. There are other benefits as well. Deeper understanding of the subject. You need to observe carefully, the lines are permanent and can’t be erased and corrected. Confidence. Ink requires commitment to choices and mark making. Again the ability to alter pencil lines can lead to hesitation and doubt. Speed. Less stopping and redrawing means each piece is quicker. The commitment of time and emotional investment is much less. You can do multiple sketches and try several subjects. The likelihood of one working out is increased. Sketching can also be fitted into other activities. Finally, pen and a simple paper are easy to carry and have on hand. It perfect for travellers and pen/ink nerds. #inthetimeittakestodrinkabeer #letsmakelemonade
