“…from the bottom of a dark Scottish lake..”

If you have a blog, creating interesting and moody images is a key interest. Sometimes black and white can be just the thing. Let’s talk about the iPhone editing filters you get when you scroll all the way over to the right. Mono, Silvertone and the mysterious Noir. Here is an iPhone photo I took on a Christmas walk in Scotland. The setting was surreal and a little foreboding. Black and white seems appropriate, but which filter to choose? Mono is the standard monochrome (B&W) filter. It will completely desaturate the colour in your photo, but maintains the original balance in the shadows and lighting. Silvertone differs from mono in the handling of contrast and hence the shadows. It will boost the contrast, and is often best on overcast days or dimly lit subjects. It is perfect for winter in Scotland. Noir is a fabulous name and as a filter is essentially a hybrid of mono and Silvertone. It will reduce exposure, but give a higher contrast. Noir will give moodiness to well lit subjects. #silvertoneisprettycoolhere #letsmakelemonade
