“Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes…”

Although rarely used and usually overlooked in English there is a term called milliard. It refers to a 1000 million. Now you might believe that this number is a billion, but you are victim of a political compromise. In the 16th century the word billion was established from the words bi and million. It meant the second power of a million, 1,000,000,000,000. The 18th century French and later the Americans were not satisfied with this and adopted the so-called short scale value system, meaning that billion became 1,000,000,000. Britain and its colonies held out until 1974, when the UK Prime Minister informed the House of Commons that they would now recognise a billion as 1000 million, not a 1,00,000 million. The milliard’s days were now numbered. Yesterday I celebrated 1,923,696.000 seconds of life. Recent lifestyle changes have put in a prime position to break the two milliard barrier. #ageisonlyanumber #letsmakelemonade
