Fake or fortune

“Who watches the watchman…”

Juvenal

So I have dived into a new rabbit hole. Let me introduce you to the world of Seiko Mods. This involves the online purchase of individual watch parts and then assembling your own often unique watches. The process essentially revolves around the NH5 Japanese watch movement, the heart of the most Seiko automatic watches. It has become popular as a hobby, as it turns out watch components are cheaper to buy than the sum of their parts. Much cheaper, although like everything on the internet the providence is an issue. That said you can learn new skills and end up with a functional watch that looks the business and that you made yourself. Here on the far left we can see a watch that has the same design and markings as an actual model of Seiko Diver’s watch. It is referred to in the hobby as a copy. It would be a fake if you represented it as real. Next is a watch based on the Rolex Batman GMT, but with Seiko markings. It is called a homage, no such watch actually exists. The green model is entirely my own design and is unlabelled. This is a modification. The final watch on the far right is an actual Seiko. #installingthehandsistherealstruggle #letsmakelemonade
