Giving it another try

“Everything you want is on the other side of fear…”

Jack Canfield

Some years ago the Diamond 580 from the Taiwanese pen company TWSBI, was a special purchase for me. Although not particularly expensive, it represented a number of firsts for me on my fountain pen journey. It was the first pen that I bought online, without being able to see, hold and write with in real life. It was the first Asian pen I had acquired, meaning I had to negotiate and guess my way through a different system of nib sizing. The 580 was the first demonstrator or transparent fountain pen to enter my collection, something that now happens regularly . You can’t beat the sight of pretty ink sloshing around in your hand. My first Diamond 580 was fully acrylic and this turned out to be its Achilles heel. These pens were notorious for cracking, leaking and coming apart at the glued seams. Mine was no exception. This is the new TWSBI Diamond 580 AL. It has stylish Prussian Blue metal casings reinforcing the previous sites of failure. What could go wrong? #backonthehorse #letsmakelemonade
