The gift of reading

“some books leave us free, some books make us free…”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

I recently helped select a location for an Urban sketching event. My suggestion was the Mitcham Memorial Library. The current library is bright, new and architectually accomplished, but the prior 1970s style building has a special place in memory and soul. If fact the whole location is pretty special. Modern and colonial architecture, a shady park, bridges, a flowing creek and a vibrant rose garden are all tucked away, barely perceptible from the adjacent roadways. During my primary school years, my mother bought to the Mitcham Library every Friday evening. There she waited as I returned my books and laboriously chose another armful for the next week. Non fiction were my favourites. I have no doubt it sparked my interest in discovering and researching facts from topics far and wide. It is probably why I write this blog. #sketchingreadingandremembering #letsmakelemonade
