The one that got away

“What’s behind you doesn’t matter…”

Enzo Ferrari

Today is the 40th Anniversary of the first Australian F1 Grand Prix. The time of the year has changed over the decades, but let’s not quibble. I remember the first Adelaide Grand Prix very well, without being able to recall the winner. The experience of watching F1 for the first time in 1985 was overwhelming for me. My mother had died suddenly a few days before the race, and my best mate Peter arranged a ticket for me as a distraction as much as anything. The crowds, the noise, the speed, the emotions have stuck with me since then.In 1995 as a junior surgeon I became in involved with the Grand Prix again, having a bit part in the treating of a critically injured driver. The distress and sense of betrayal in Adelaide when the race moved to Melbourne was real. Over recent years I have been fortunate enough to be a regular F1 attendee, a group of friends, including Peter by my side. #kekerosburg #letsmakelmonade
