“Love of country is the Mason’s deed; world citizenship is his thought…”
Benjamin Franklin
Let’s talk about Freemasonry, a scary topic for many but less so in reality. Recently in a drawer, I found my father’s worshipful master apron badges or jewels. The Lodge runs deep in my family, I am a fifth generation mason. My godfather progressed into international masonic degrees, travelling overseas to attend meetings and ceremonies. He ended up an actual Knights Templar. I am probably the only mason in South Australia initiated by a Templar, courtesy of Uncle Maurice. Focussing on symbolism and history, self progression, learning and betterment, there are three levels of basic or Blue mason. Entered apprentice, Fellowcraft and Master Mason. If you survive your third degree interrogation and become a Master Mason you can seek to be an elected officer of a lodge, progressing over seven steps to Master of the Lodge. Once elected a Master, the opportunity exists to progress through higher degree Lodges, Blue, Red, Arch, Rainbow, and Grand. My father Allan had these jewels added to his apron when he became Master of Hawthorn Lodge No73 in 1971. The design is a combination of the plumb rule and level tools, forming what is referred to the Master Jewel of the Square. #letmeshakeyourhand #letsmakelemomade
