The Sisters of medicine

“A clean body is a canvas for a clear mind..”

Socrates

Many readers will be familiar with Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. Asclepius, with his serpent entwined staff, represents the wisdom and teaching aspects of the medical arts. Less is generally known about his five daughters, but they were also health professionals. Hygieia, is the most prominent, rising to great fame during the hygiene crazes of the recent pandemic. She is the goddess of maintaining good health. Panacea is the goddess of universal remedies. Iaso is the goddess of recuperation. Aceso is the goddess of the healing process. Finally, Aegle is the goddess of radiant good health. Presumably, a good option for prayer if undergoing radiotherapy. It seems that women have always been prominent in medicine, an important lesson not to forget. #nepobabies #letsmakelmonade
