“There is no blue without orange…”
Vincent Van Gogh
To me orange is the colour of the Dalmatian coast, especially Dubrovnik. The blues of the Adriatic Sea are special and amazing, but as Van Gogh noted, they just need a finishing touch. The accent colour of the orange roof tiles works perfectly, it is powerful, unique and memorable. I bought extra shades of blue paint for my trip to Croatia, but what I really needed were more oranges, but a little shopping solves anything. Sadly, the truth about most things in life must be taken with a grain of salt. During the Homeland war of the early 1990s, a majority of the roofs in Dubrovnik were destroyed by bombardment. After the war France made a massive donation of terracotta tiles to help with the restoration of the city. The generous gift was gratefully accepted, but alas the tiles were orange, the original roof tiles of Dubrovnik had been beige. Orange is still the colour that will remain in my memories and sketchbook. #sostunning #letsmakelemonade
