“A manifesto is different from a magazine…”
Charlotte Casiraghi
Zentism was an avant-garde art movement based in Zagreb from 1921 tp 1924. It emerged in response to the chaos of WW1, and the death of over a million Yugoslavians. Ljubomir Micić launched the movement when he published the Zentist manifesto. Micic defined Zentism as the embracement of abstract metacosmic expressionism. Most of its artistic ideas were communicated through the Zenit magazine. This publication became internationally famous, publishing 43 issues in just 3 years. Zentism was crucially influential in the later establishment of abstract expressionism. Post WW2, frustrated New York artists based their activism on what had been achieved in Zagreb, complete with manifesto and their own published journal. #allartisradical #letsmakelemonade
