“Have nothing in your home that is not useful or beautiful…”
William Morris
Melissa is very talented with colour pencils. She has an eye for detail, technique, colour and most importantly, patience. Her amazing strawberry plant drawing that we see above, is weeks of work and a joy to have in our home. Strawberry plants have a strong tradition in art and design, particularly in the textiles of UK designer/artist, William Morris. Morris was famous for his fabric design The Strawberry Thief, which incorporates strawberries, their leaves and their predator thrushes. This design was very difficult to produce commercially. First attempts began in 1875, but were not successful until 1883. The key was a painstaking modification of an indigo dye technique. Morris was so pleased with his results that The Strawberry Thief became the first ever textile design to be patented. It was also his best seller. #trytrytryagain #letsmakelemonade
