What are the odds?

“There’s something greater than the result, more lasting – a legacy…”

Founded in 1877 the SANFL is the oldest football league of any code in the world. Last weekend I had the immense pleasure of watching Sturt win its 16th SANFL Premiership. How significant is this? Basically there have been 148 SANFL Premiers. Port have contested 147 (they missed 2020 COVID year) and won 36 times for one every four years. Next are Norwood with 31 flags for 147 seasons, one every five years. Sturt is next for total Premierships, 16 in 124 attempts, one every eight years. Centrals have won 9 times from only 61 seasons, but have done better than Sturt with one every seven years. South, a foundation team of the SANFL has had the most frustrating time, with a flag every 13 years, and a drought since 1964. I my lifetime, Sturt have won 11 times, or one every 5 years, 5 of those wins occurring before I turned seven. #goyoublues #letsmakelemonade
