The 2025 Nobel prize winners for Medicine (technically physiology and medicine) have just been announced. Since 1895, 117 of them have been awarded. If you should become a Nobel Laureate, you will recieve a gold medal, a diploma and money. The amount of cash varies year per year, subject to the stock market influences on the trust fund, but is generally just over 1 million USD. Up to three people can share the prize, getting separate medals and diplomas, but they have to split the money. The awards are bestowed by the King of Sweden at a dinner in Stockholm on the 10th of December, the anniversary of Nobel’s death. So far 13 women have received prizes for Medicine. Once legal action decided the winner. The most controversial award was in 1949, for the development of icepick prefrontal leucotomy. Laboratory researchers are more successful than pure clinicians, much to the public annoyance of many, Cushing, Freud and Barnard being notable. Finally, you must be alive to claim the prize. #lifegoals #letsmakelemonade
