“The Viscount was a dream to fly as long as you had strong arms…”
Brian Dunn, Test Pilot
My children have always flown. To them it is like booking an Uber. That was not always the case. I didn’t fly until after Medical School. My Mum never flew at all and my Dad only once. He made a legendary flight across to Newcastle NSW, a work trip to visit Tubemakers Australia’s new computer system. His ride was a TAA Vickers Viscount. The Viscount was turboprop, medium range plane, capable of carrying 24 passengers. It was the result of UK military aircraft manufacturers turning their attention to civil aviation post WW2. The Viscount’s special feature was pressurisation, which allowed flight at altitudes above weather and turbulence. Well theoretically at least. Dad hated every second he was in the air, reporting nothing but bumps and air pockets all the way there and back. He swore never again, and he didn’t. #likefatherlikeson #letsmakelmonade
