“Should old acquaintances be forgot, keep your eye on the old Double Blues…”
My heart has always been with the blues, the Double Blues at least. A year or two ago I ran into a couple of problems with my CML medication. One was a pericardial effusion. The days around the discovery of this and the implications were pretty terrifying. How your heart is pumping is important, and in my experience people with malignancies and fluid around their heart didn’t do very well. Luckily for me a change of mediation resolved the issue, and I had again dodged a health bullet. Forward a month of two and I found myself in a pretty dark place. Around 75% of people who suffer an acute cardiac illness will develop the Cardiac Blues. This is characterised by weeks, months or even years of changes in mood and emotions . Sadness, tearfulness, anger, irritability, worry, anxiety, confusion, forgetfulness, and withdrawal are all common. The worry is never feeling confident about the future again. It can take time but most will get past the Cardiac Blues, as have I. #beyondbluenow #letsmakelemonade
