“”Colour directly influences the soul…”
Wassily Kandinsky
The word abstract means to separate or withdraw something from something else. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead uses shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect. Pure abstraction goes even further, it is non objective and therefore distinct from primitive art, where objects, figures, and landscapes have been simplified or schematised. True abstract art is often seen as carrying a moral dimension, particularly related to simplicity, purity or spirituality. This is an awful lot to paint. Here is one of my attempts at pure abstraction. The first daubes of colour are easy, but soon you start counting colours and forcing pretty patterns. Worse still you can start to see it resemble something, which would be ruinous. Randomness is hard. How can you know a work is randomly finished? Harder still is to be sure you have captured a moral dimension. #funanyway #letsmakelemonade
