Licensed and purchased Pantone brand colours are all around us…
Pantone was founded in New Jersey during the summer of 1963. The name means all colours. Their classification system allows reproducible global colour matching across different media, both printed and digital. Prior to 1963, ink and pigments were non standardised and varied even between print runs. Not great if you want brand recognition through colour. Pantone uses the patented Pantone Match System (PMS), to employ 13 base pigments in a numerically coded recipe for each of their 6143 colours. Since 1999 Pantone has also picked a colour of the year. This is a simple shade chosen to reflect the current geopolitical and cultural mood. 2026 has proven to be a controversial year. Pantone 11-4201, Cloud Dreamer is white. Many fountain pen ink companies release very popular limited edition inks based on the Pantone colour of the year. White is not a great colour for inks, nor is it great for displaying in blog posts. #simpleandcalm #letsmakelemonade
