Art on the Yarra

“Colour Field”

DW1

Herring Island is part of the Yarra River in Melbourne. It is a couple of kilometres from the CBD, part of the suburb of Richmond. Access is via Ferry from near Flinders Street. It is comprised of relatively untouched native bushland , contains the Herring Island Art Gallery and Sculpture Park and hosts the Herring Island Summer Arts Festival. Part of this festival is the annual A4 Art Australia Exhibition, held in the Gallery on the island. Works must be exactly A4 size, so most will be on watercolour paper. Each work is submitted unframed, and the gallery provides a simple standardised mounting for each piece. There is no theme for the exhibition and it appears to be a great introduction to the world of exhibiting your art. There is nothing to lose in trying, so I have my paints and A4 paper out. I hope to have a couple of paintings to send off to Melbourne. The exhibition runs through February and March, so I can visit it during the Australian F1. Keep your fingers crossed for me. #nofoollikeanoldfool #letsmakelemonade
