The hip bone is connected to the knee bone

“We can be the new brand of self extincting dinosaurs or we can evolve…”

Eden Robinson

In 1888, the Cambridge scholar Harry Seeley developed a simple and universally adopted two step system for classifying dinosaurs. Dinosaur hip bones are frequently discovered as an intact fossil record of these animals, so are an excellent choice foe classification. The hip bones on every dinosaur are either Saurschia (lizard-hipped) or Orinthischia (bird-hipped). Tyrannosaurus is the classic example of the first, and Triceratops the second. Interestingly, lizard hips allow the development of bipedal gait, bird hips do not. This difference in gait allows Saurschia to do other things with their forelimbs, such as flapping. Yes ironically, the lizard-hipped dinosaurs evolved into birds. Modern bird hips are an example of a secondary evolution process. #hiptobesquare #letsmakelemonade
