“You have sent me a Flanders mare…”
Henry VIII
One of the quaintest TV series I have encountered is the UK based Detectorists. It is funny, sad, empathetic, subtle, visually appealing, and extremely nerdy. A couple of blokes who spend their free time detectoring for potentially life changing ancient treasure in the fields of Britain. It was good enough to fully engage me when I found it on a long haul flight. Not a particularly easy thing to do. What we see above is a Tudor Heart pendant. This specific one was gifted by Henry VIII to his first wife, Catherine of Aragon (divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived). The 24 carat gold treasure was found by an amateur metal detectorist in 2019. This piece sold in February 2026 to the British Museum for $4.8 million. Under British law, treasure finds must be surrendered to the local coroner. Significant pieces are then auctioned by the UK Government on the open market, the money raised being split 50/50 between finder and landowner. #indeedlifechanging #letsmakeleomonade
