Petanque, Boules or Bocce?

“I like the simple things. I like being in my family, in the South and playing petanque…”

Jean Dujardain

Let’s get some things sorted out. Petanque and boules refer to the same thing. Petanque is the game and the ball is a boule. Petanque is a french game and referred to as Petanque round the world. In typical french style, in France it is usually called boules. Bocce is Italian. The balls are different. Hollow steele versus solid wood or resin for Bocce. As the balls are bigger, Bocce is a rolling game. Petanque uses a back hand, lobbing technique. Bocce is played on a measured and prepared court, Petanque can be played anywhere there is access to alcohol. Any area where Petanque is placed is referred to as a Boulodrome. #getpracticing #letsmakelemonade
