Escaping into the paint

“If you’re going through hell, just keep going…”

Winston Churchill

One of the most fascinating places to visit in London is Churchill’s Wartime Cabinet Rooms. Within these cramped underground rooms, Winston spent the most crucial hours of WW2. The technology is little more than phones, meeting rooms, typewriters and maps. Churchill virtually lived there. It must have been hell. The responsibility to guide Britain through the crisis of war must have been crushing. Like all great individuals feeling the pressure, a hobby was needed. Winston Churchill loved to paint watercolours, usually landscapes. He painted most prolifically in his darkest hours. His style was highly influenced by the impressionists and he completed over 500 significant works. It is enough to inspire me in the hour of strife. #getahobby #letsmakelemonade
