Summers in the Millard

“At the beach time you wasted is not wasted…”

TS Eliot

During my childhood these weeks of midsummer were the time to go away in the caravan. Allan and Rhonda had a burnt orange Millard. It was top of the range, over $1000 purchased new. It had everything, but by 2025 standards it had nothing. A couple of folding beds, a fold down table, a small gas burner and a shoebox sized fridge. Great adventures were had in the Millard. Sometimes afar (Dad towed it to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane), but often nearby, nearly always next to a beach. A favourite was the Port Elliott Caravan Park. I am talking about the old one, just off the sands of the beach, right in the middle of Horseshoe Bay. Ironically, given my adult lifestyle, we never went to Aldinga Beach. Mum thought it was too far inland and didn’t like cars on the beach. #melissalea #letsmakelemonade
