The gathering storm of pointlessness

“This is not history: this is my case…”

Sir Winston Churchill

I recently worked my way through the audiobook The Second World War, written and narrated by Winston Churchill. With 7 volumes and over 5000 pages, this is a true piece of work. An effort to listen through, unimaginable to write. The first volume, The Gathering Storm, is considered the definitive account of pre WW2 World politics, Churchill won the 1953 Nobel Prize for literature off the back of these books. None of this relates to the subject of this blog. Researching the 1953 Nobel Prizes, I noted that Adolf Krebs won the Physiology/Medicine prize for his discovery of the Krebs/Citiric Acid cycle. This is a triggering name for medical student of a certain age. In medical biochemistry we were forced to memorise and be able to draw the Krebs cycle. It has never helped me treat a patient, however things like this piece of basic science and their rote recall were a significant obstacles for many talented physicians. I still feel angry. #rantover #letsmakelemonade

I would be grateful if you reflect on dissecting cockroach mouth parts in first year medicine and the subsequent clinical relevance , and also the social consequences of a now welfare dependent underclass of edentulous cockroaches
