“A bonsai is like poem, a haiku in three dimensions…”
Japanese proverb
I have never had my own indoor plant before, but now I have Ginky. Ginkgo Biloba is a popular tree for bonsai, representing longevity and the sacred life, it is a common temple tree. Ginkgo are dioecious, meaning there are male and female trees. Ginky is a male, he has no ovules at the end of his twigs. Female Gingko trees give off an unpleasant odour and are not popular as indoor bonsai plants. Of course he really should be referred to as a punsai tree. Pen, pan or pun is Chinese for flat earthenware bowls or pots. Cultivating dwarf trees in pun emerged in China around 706 AD, not appearing as bonsai in Japan until about 800 years ago. #finallyaboyinthefamily #letsmakelemonade
