“Shape Shadows, 1934”
Charles Green Shaw
The term Precisionism was first coined in the mid 1920’s by MOMA Director Alfred H Barr. It is an Art movement you may not have heard of, but I suspect have encountered, perhaps even had a print on your wall at some point. Precisionism was essentially the offspring of Cubism, Purism, and Futurism. Precisionism artists reduced subjects to their essential geometric shapes, eliminated detail, and often used planes of light to create crisp focus and suggest sleekness. They celebrated the American landscape of skyscrapers, bridges and factories. They inspired an entire generation of poster art. #artdeco #letsmakelemonade
