India or Indian ink?

“Only in art can empires cheat oblivion…”

-Tom Stoppard

For centuries the most prized medium for pen and ink drawing has been India ink. Internet experts argue over whether it is India or Indian. It does not matter as long as the colour you choose is black. This ink is incredibly permanent, light-fast and untroubled by water based paints and washes. The problem has been the instability of the pigment in solution. Known to destroy fountain pens, it is for dip pens only. In 2019 the Indigraph pen was released, employing a water humidifier in the cap to allow the use of India ink in a standard fountain pen system. Fingers crossed. #nocloggednibs #letsmakelemonade
