Supermarionation

“Thunderbirds are go…”

Jeff Tracey

Thunderbirds is a British science fiction TV show created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. It portrayed an NGO international rescue organisation, with access to wildly advanced technology, but weirdly, not mobile phones. Premiering in 1964, the show was set 100 years into the future. All characters were string puppets, with elaborate models and real time special effects. At the time it was (by some margin) the most expensive TV series ever produced. The Thunderbird pilots were, in order of birth -Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon and Alan. They were named after the real life Mercury 7 astronauts – Carpenter, Glenn, Grisssom, Cooper and Sheppard. My first dog was named Scott. I wanted to fly Thunderbird 2. Let’s hope my wife never finds out what I paid for this book! #FAB #letsmakelemonade

  1. Loved ‘Thunderbirds’ as a child of the 60’s or was that before? Must have been set in their past and my future!! Go figure 😂
