Wright’s Masterpiece

“…the most beautiful job…”

Time Magazine

In 1991 the Falling Water house was named “best all time work of American architecture ” by the American Institute of Architects. I guess they should know. The home was commissioned from Frank Lloyd Wright by the New York Kaufmann Department Store dynasty. Draped over a waterfall on the Bear Run River, Pennsylvania, the structure was completed in 1939. Completely adapted to the local landscape, the interior walls feature exposed natural rocks and the watercourse is internalised, but not varied. Falling Water inspired the final scenes of Hitchcock’s North by North West.
