The Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of South Australia holds the record for hosting the largest number of shows in the world. The nearest rival is the Royal Bath Society, founded in 1777. The first local show was held in a Hindley Street Pub during early December 1840, just 4 years after the founding of the State. Up until 1925, when the event moved to purpose built site in Wayville, shows were held twice a year. The main arena complex, shown here could hold crowds of over 30,000 people – usually achieved by the popular Friday night Speedway Races. This year there will not be a Show at Wayville, but there is a major online event, which is currently underway. All 31 competition sections will be virtually or social distantly judged, with over 30,000 entries in the mix. The Show has been cancelled before during both World Wars, and interestingly in 1919 during the Spanish Flu. #whatabouttheshowbags #letsmakelemonade
