“Life is so short and the crafts so long to learn…”

Geoffrey Chaucer

This beautiful watercolour painting on vellum is a Monk manuscript from the 14th Century. The untitled text now resides in Magdalen College Cambridge. It is the oldest suriving example of a Model Book. This refers to manucript that depicts accurate images of actual species, for the purpose of scholarship and identification. Seen here are a Skylark, Yellow Bunting, Cuckoo, Nightjar, Crane, Spoonbill, Greenland falcon, Nightingale, Lark and Green woodpecker. My wife will have fun identifying each one. #medievallifers #letsmakelemonade
