Blueprint for living

“Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans…”

John Lennon

Meet Joe and Josephine. They were drawn and named by the early 20th century industrial designer and architect, Henry Dreyfuss. They are blueprints of an average man and woman. The size and proportion of humans is important in architectural design. Living spaces, offices, windows, furniture, passageways, staircases and lifts all need to the correct size for human habitation. Exactly how much research when in to these drawings is unclear, but they are stated to represent the 50th percentile of subjects. These figures were widely used in American design, and became known as the average Joe. #granddesignsforhumans #letsmakelemonade
