“When I have a terrible need, then I go out and paint the stars…”
Vincent Van Gogh
I am lucky enough to have a couple of adopted Greek Godfathers who keep an eye on my wellbeing. They often tell me that the Greeks invented everything. Here is a good example. The term Milky Way to descibe the appearance of the night sky, comes from the ancient Greeks. To be exact they used the phrase milky circle. The galaxy above us was an important subject in Greek Mythology. They believed that the Milky Way was formed when the trickster God Hermes, sneakily attached the infant Hercules to the sleeping Hera, Queen of the Gods. When she awoke she tore the infant away from her breast and splattered milk across the heavens. This moment is captured in Tinteretto’s 1575 work, The Origin of the Milky Way. The Milky Way was one of eleven circles the Greeks identified in the night sky. The others were the zodiac, the meridian, the horizon, the equator, the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, Arctic and Antarctic circles and the two colure circles, passing through the poles. #romanceofthemilkyway #letsmakelemonade
What can one say David!
It ALL started with the Greeks or at least the ancient ones and there had been no improvement since despite what the godfathers are doing although John has certainly added medical “culture” that he spreads around and certainly in Indonesia.
It’s a wonderful blog David when these pearls of knowledge come out.
You should by now have thousands of hits. Well done and it’s appreciated.
