Walking by the lovely waters

“If there is magic on this planet, it is in the water…”

Loren Eiseley

Beneath the surface of this impressive body of water is the Lovely Valley. Between 1840-1958 this was an especially picturesque farming region adjacent the coast, not too far from Adelaide and with a pretty reliable water supply from the surrounding hills and ranges. After flooding it became the Myponga reservoir, supplying most of the potable water to Southern Adelaide and the South Coast. All progress comes at a cost and the construction of the Myponga Dam allowed the expansion of the Southern suburbs, ultimately leading to further now key infrastructure such as the Southern Expessway and Flinders Medical Centre. A few years ago the shores of the reservoir were opened to walkers and now the water is available to Kayakers. It is an amazing place on a autumn Sunday morning. #amagicalplace #letsmakelemonade
