“Success is when a signature becomes an autograph…”
Abdul Kalam
Up until the European Renaissance, around the 15th Century, it was uncommon for artists to sign their work. At that time individual contributions began to have merit and add value to pieces of art. Prior to this art was communal or anonymous, perhaps with an acknowledgement of a region or workshop at most. I am pretty tragic, I sign every piece I draw or paint. Nearly always with my weird Kanji, often in red, sometimes with a pretentious little stamp. Melissa is the opposite. She strives for perfection and has a meticulous, dedicated approach to her art. She is very opinionated and clear about the standards of the work she produces. She only signs if she is particularly proud of a piece, always with a small encircled ML in the bottom right corner. This colour pencil still life on black paper, being a perfect example. #shelikesthisone #letsmakelemonade
