“I belong to this notebook and pencil….”
Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway and John Steinbeck wrote a pretty good novel. Both were obsessed with pencils. Hemingway moved to pencils after he spilt a full bottle of ink over his beloved Moleskine notebook. A prodigious drinker most of his life, pencils were a safer option. Steinbeck had his own invariable rituals. Sharpen 24 pencils before a writing session, never use a yellow pencil and never write with a pencil after it has been sharpened beyond the brand lettering. Both writers were major devotees of Blackwing pencils. Originally made by Faber Eberhardt, the modern Blackwing is produced by Palomino, and is certainly having a moment with sales numbers never better. Blackwing pencils are big on the internet and highly collectable. #neveruseyellow #letsmakelemonade
